Connection Parenting Podcast

From Strengths to Challenges: Transforming Parenting with Pam Leo

I have had to pause in life as I navigated losing my mum and continue to navigate it. But I am at last pleased to share with you the next episode of the Connection Parenting Podcast with Pam Leo.

This one is a must!

I interview Pam Leo about her “Parenting Strengths and Challenges Inventory,” a simple two-column exercise listing what parents want and don’t want for their children, then check-marking items they did experience in childhood to identify strengths (modelled experiences) and challenges (giving what you didn’t get and not repeating what you did). We discuss how the inventory builds awareness, compassion, and parent-led change, and how repair and “do-overs” help maintain connection while parents do long-term healing work; they contrast respectful “power with” approaches to coercion and note modern challenges like screens. Pam plans to make the inventory freely accessible online. They also discuss Pam’s literacy work, including the “Read in 100 Places Before Fall” outdoor family reading challenge, Little Free Libraries, and her children’s book Please Read to Me in dyslexia-friendly font.

As mentioned in the podcast Pam has shared her exercise that helps us look at our strengths and challenges as parents. The most profound part is that the we can profoundly shift challenges when we shed light on them.

You can download the exercise here.
